Cape Town is situated on the south western point of the African continent and is sometimes referred to as gateway to Africa. Another memorable place to visit while in Town is Tokai arboretum which has huge variety of trees on its ground including a giant American redwood tree. Area has been developed into a beautiful park with walkways where you can enjoy nature with your family.
In the months from August to October, warm waters of the False Bay are visited by Southern Right whales to calve. Avid whale watchers can see these giant creatures enjoying in waves during this time. Though Hermanus is a best place to watch such whales but they can also be sighted from Cape Peninsula. An interesting place worth a visit is privately owned Simonstowns Toy Museum that has thousands of interesting toys on display. Children can have real fun at this place and can even buy such toys at the museum. Their opening time is somewhat erratic and you need to confirm using phone before your visit especially in the mornings.
Visitors to Town should also plan a visit to Robben Island that was used for housing political prisoners in the apartheid era. It has become world famous due to a famous political prisoner Nelson Mandela. You will be shown different parts of the prison by the guides who are ex-prisoners themselves.
